Description
Working with needles and thread, fabric, smartphones and laptops students in an art class for pre-service educators worked collaboratively to research the geography surrounding their university and create a quilt. In the process they gained first-hand experience in an arts-integrated approach to teaching and learning. Inspired by an account of elementary students exploring quilting and social studies, and informed by contemporary arts integration approaches the students worked collaboratively to plan and create an eighty-one square quilt. Challenges encountered along the way became productive spaces where research and art making blended to become active components of learning and expressing knowledge.
