Aims & Scope

The Index of Texas Archaeology distributes digital archaeological reports for sites across the State of Texas. Since 2008, digital archaeological reports have been required by the Texas Historical Commission (THC) in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a Texas Antiquity Permit. Additionally, there are numerous other digital archaeological reports from various sources that are very difficult to find. Both sets of reports provide an enormous amount of information on the archaeology of Texas. Until now, it has been difficult to obtain these reports and their access has been limited.

The Index of Texas Archaeology aims to make these reports available in an open access format under a Creative Commons or other license, as required by the various agencies. The ITA is indexed and searchable by Google, Google Scholar, Altmetric and CrossRef. Abstracts and the full reports may be read online or downloaded to your computer at no charge. Any copyrighted or non-copyrighted digital archaeological report may be submitted by the copyright holder or author. This service is provided at no cost to users.
